As a pet owner, you hear about different forms of prevention for fleas and ticks. Yes, fleas and ticks are pests and are definitely uncomfortable for your dog. However, one thing that isn’t brought up often is how infectious these pests can be.
One disease spread to your dog from a tick is commonly called “Tick Fever.” It is one of the most common tick-related diseases and also the most dangerous. This disease is caused by a brown tick when it bites your dog which in turn transmits the deadly bacteria which gives us Tick Fever.
Symptoms of Tick Fever may not start right away–the disease symptoms could take weeks or months to come about. Symptoms include the following:
- lack of appetite
- weight loss
- nose bleed/runny nose
- swollen limbs
The most thorough way to prevent your dog from getting this disease is to exterminate all of the ticks in his environment as well as having him on a tick preventative.
