National Mutt Day is today, July 31st. However, it has another National Day on December 2nd. Why?
Well, there are over hundreds of thousands of dogs in adoption shelters today. It’s important to bring awareness up on the circumstances of crossbreeds in shelters and to educate others on how they can live healthy lives. It also is another avenue to promote adoption!
Generally speaking, mix breeds can in fact live healthier lives than those dogs who aren’t mixed.
Today, find a shelter near you. Any shelter will take donations and usually takes volunteer help. You can volunteer to walk a dog, hold him, play with him or maybe even bathe him! Also, most shelters usually will take your donations of blankets, towels, toys and food.
If you have a mutt already, awesome! Here are some things you can do with him or her today:
- take your mutt on a longer walk
- take your mutt to the beach
- buy your mutt a new bed
- buy your mutt a new toy
- buy your mutt a nice, new collar
- get your mutt microchipped
- give your mutt a nice big chewy or treat
