3 Types of Parasite Protection – Trifexis®

December 21, 2015 by

Here at Day & Evening Pet Hospital and Pet Surgical Center, we sell a product called Trifexis®.

It is a tablet that you can give your dog once a month to protect him or her from 3 types of parasites.  It conveniently does the following:

  • Kills fleas and prevents infestations
  • Prevents heartworm disease
  • Treats and controls intestinal parasite infections for:
    • Hookworms
    • Roundworms
    • Whipworms

Fleas:

Generally, all pet owners know to have some sort of flea control for their pet.  This is very smart and you should definitely talk to one of our vets to find which form of flea control is best for your dog.  Trifexis® lasts a full month and kills fleas before they even have a chance to lay eggs.  It actually starts working within 30 minutes to kill those fleas!  It is also used as a preventative and does prevent future flea infestations.

Heartworms:

These can be very deadly and can create for your dog what is known as “Heartworm Disease.”  Treatment for this disease is very difficult and costly.  It is urged greatly to have your pet on a heartworm preventative because it IS ENTIRELY PREVENTABLE!

Intestinal Parasites:

Your dog can contract these parasites from essentially anywhere.  Trifexis® does protect your dog against hookworms, roundworms and whipworms.  To take it one step further in regards to prevention, it is recommended that you not allow your dogs to roam, that you pick up feces in the yard at least weekly and immediately in public places (parks, etc.).  These worms create great discomfort for your pet such as diarrhea, inflammation and can even cause death if left untreated.

We want your dog to live a long and healthy, happy life!  Please come see us to find out if this brand of preventative is right for your dog!

An All-Encompassing Preventative

March 31, 2015 by

Have you seen all of the different choices for preventatives out there?  Are you going back and forth on which would be the best for your dog?  We provide a 3 in 1 parasite protection chewable tablet at our hospital.

It’s called Trifexis® and it works great.

It does many things.  It kills fleas and prevents infestations.  It is a preventative for heartworm disease.  It also treats and controls intestinal parasites like adult hookworms, roundworms and whipworm infections.

Quick facts:

Fleas:  can cause extreme discomfort such as chewing, scratching, biting and even fur loss.  If the infestation is severe enough your dog may get anemia.

Heartworm disease:  Transmitted from dog to dog through mosquitos.  It’s an important preventative because if left untreated, it can be fatal to your dog.  Also, treatment is arduous and it is costly.

Intestinal parasites:  Can be contracted almost anywhere–on a walk, in the yard, at a park, on the beach.  These parasites bring on health issues and even diseases if left untreated for long.

It’s a once-a-month chewable tablet (beef flavored so you know they’ll LOVE it).  You can sign up on the Trifexis® website to get reminders for when it’s time to give it.  They can send it to your email or text you.

Come into the Day and Evening Pet Hospital today to see if your dog can benefit from Trifexis® today.

AdvantageMulti for Dogs

February 28, 2014 by

If you have a dog, you know you should have your pet on some sort of heartworm preventative.  Also flea preventaive.  Also parasite preventative, etc., etc.  But which is right for your dog?  Do you need to buy separate products?  Is there an all-in-one you can use?  Yes and No.  Your vet will need to review your dog’s health history and recommend the best preventative for your pet.

However, we can let you know what is available so you can ask the doc about them.

There is a product called AdvantageMulti for Dogs.  It is a heartworm preventative and kills adult fleas and flea infestations.  It also treats certain parasites including Roundworms, Whipworms and Hookworms.

AdvantageMulti for Dogs is a topical solution and is applied monthly to work year-round.  It is applied between the shoulder blades.  It is recommended that you don’t bathe your dog or let him or her go swimming for at least 24 hours after application.  However, records have shown that dogs are still protected after bathing or swinning 60-90 minutes after applying the topical solution.

Puppies can use this product starting at 8 weeks.  If you have a dog weighing more than 110 pounds, he or she can still use this product.  The vet will let you know the amount of applicators to combine so your dog gets the correct dosage for his weight.

If you have a cat, the cat cannot use this product.  There is an AdvantageMulti for Cats, so please ask the vet about it to see if it’s right for your cat.  It’s important to keep all pets under the same roof protected as each can harbor different parasites and pass them on to their “brother” or “sister.”

Please keep your pets on some sort of prevention.  It’s less costly than dealing with it if they do get infected.  We want your pet to live a long, happy and healthy life with your family.

Love,
Day & Evening Pet Hospital Staff
