Is your pet constantly scratching, losing hair, sneezing, coughing, or chewing at their skin? These can all be signs of allergies. Environmental and food allergies not only affect us as humans, but they can affect our pets as well. Here in Florida, allergies can be a year long problem. The constant itching and scratching can be enough to drive you and your pet crazy!
Here at the Day and Evening Pet Hospital, we have a few ways to help combat your pets allergies; medicated shampoos, oral medications, prescription diets, and allergy testing and injections.
Additionally, there are some things you can do at home to help relieve your pet.
Please be cautious as you do this, but you can use a simple solution to clean out your pet’s eyes just as you may do your own. This is a simple way to remove allergens and anything in your pet’s eye that may be irritating to him or her.
You can do this at your home. Depending on the severity of the substances in your pet’s ear, it may be wiser to have us do the first flushing and then show you how to do it. Ear flushing is something you can learn how to do and keep it up at home, if your pet permits you to. This is a very gentle procedure. Please learn how to do it correctly before trying.
These are available at our clinic. These keep your pet’s skin clean and medicated. Bathing your pet at least once a week with a medicated shampoo and conditioner will greatly help your pet’s irritations. You will have a happier and cleaner pet!
If your pet does have allergies and you can’t seem to figure out exactly what they are or why he or she has them, please bring your pet in. Our vets can and will figure it out.
