National Pet Obesity Day is October 9th this year!
In wanting to raise awareness of what obesity in pets can do to their health, we are not only listing some facts about it here, but are going to tell you what you can do about it.
Firstly, obesity in pets can give your pet an array of health problems. While this is not a complete list, here are some points you can think with:
- joint problems
- can get diabetes
- difficulty breathing in general
- liver failure
- heart disease
- increased blood pressure
- lack of energy
These points are very easily prevented with a good diet, not feeding table scraps and an exercise routine. If your pet has a hard time keeping weight off and you feel you are doing/feeding him or her correctly, please come and see us. Your pet very well may need a prescription diet that only a vet can prescribe. (When necessary, getting your pet on a prescription diet should also be viewed as a type of preventative care. It is much more expensive, let alone painful, to see your pet go through the health issues that lead up to diabetes, heart disease, etc., then it is to get them on a proper prescription diet to handle their weight.)
You can see a list of our prescription diets here. We have many to help handle various health issues.
Call us today if you need help handling your pet’s weight. Something can be done about it and we are here to help you with it!
